AlexD (of Red Autumn Road) is the stage name of singer, songwriter, composer, pianist, and guitarist, Alexander DeRoo of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. AlexD creates expressive, acoustic grooves of mindful material that appeal to diverse listeners. “AlexD weaves lyrics and music that resonate and shape genuine narratives of emotion, struggle, discovery, loss, and social dialogue. Messages of awareness, love, heartbreak, change, hope, defeat, passion… essentially, life’s yearning to LIVE, all lend breath to his storytelling.” Currently in his early 20's, AlexD attends McMaster University and works at a local coffee pub situated on Hamilton's waterfront. AlexD began his musical journey at age eight with mentor/pianist, Ken Gee (now of Guelph, Ontario). Exploring the keys, solid fundamentals, and developing his joy of performance music were the emphasis. At age 12, structured formal training began with mentor/pianist Lauren Cho of The Hamilton Conservatory for the Arts. Cho recognized his intuitive musicality at the entry audition. He continued classical studies during the next four years and performed in numerous recitals. In addition to piano, AlexD finds the guitar to be an expressive instrument. His first guitar was a handcrafted classical by Hamilton luthier, Jerry Farrell. Later he acquired a Taylor SolidBody electric and a Gibson J45 acoustic. He is always keen to play sweet sounding strings. AlexD enjoyed several years of creative sessions with guitarist, Kevin McHarg of The Hamilton Conservatory for the Arts. He now continues to find delight in styling chord progressions that complement his original, perceptive poetry. Multifaceted dimensions as a singer, songwriter, composer, and musician combine with his expressions of life moments.
