Matthew Ortega has been in the music industry since the age of 15. As the quiet kid, Matt always carried his CD player to listen to music while going to and from class, which often drowned out the teachers assigning mundane class work. Although music absorbed much of his daily routine, it took some time for Matthew to realize that music is his life.
Matthew's dad always had an extensive collection of acoustics around the house for him to jam on while growing up. Even though he’d received his first guitar on his fourth birthday, it wouldn’t be until his 13th birthday that his first acoustic from was his father would spark a musical endeavor of his very own. When Matt turned 16, he met up with some friends and sang in front of them. One of them was soon to be the guitarist of Matthew's old Moorpark based band: "iNTREPiD.”
Matthew joined the band iNTREPiD before graduating high school, having no idea the impression it would leave on him. Playing shows all over Ventura , Los Angeles , and Santa Barbara County for the next three years made this period one of the best of his life. He learned a lot from selling pre-sale tickets in order to get a headlining spot at a venue such as "The Roxy". The exposure of putting music out in the public created an invaluable stepping stone towards searching out a musical career. The nervous feelings of performance jitters were soon replaced with the rush of adrenaline that only performing live provides.
Although iNTREPiD broke up, going their own separate ways, Matthew went on to write his own music and lyrics just so he could perform again. “Music is what I live for…until the day I die,” says Matthew, who plans to continue writing and composing music for the rest of his life.(Condewit has now been nominated for: Best New Artist, in the "Ventura County Music Awards."
