The Jar Family are an 8 piece band from Hartlepool, in the north east of England, which includes five singer/songwriters/guitarists, all of different style and genre, who have quickly forged a distinctive sound of north-east blues & indie roots, uniquely coined as 'Industrial folk' Having seen success with their debut EP 'Livingston Session, and having amassed a size-able collection of songs, the band decamped from their site in Cambridge, where they had spent 9 months living in caravans to concentrate on their writing, to the seminal Sawmill Studio to record ‘The Jar Family Album’ in June 2011. Produced by Keith Wilkinson, the album was then mixed by the legendary John Cornfield (Muse, Supergrass, Razorlight, Oasis, Athlete) and also features Paul Carrack on Hammond organ. In addition to being very well received by the national music press and radio alike, their debut single, ‘Poolie Strut’ became the most requested song in Radio Hartlepool’s history and has since been played at all of Hartlepool United’s home matches, leading to the home faithful chanting the song on the terraces. November 2011 then saw the release of The Jar Family’s second single ‘In For A Penny’ which preceded the band’s first ever UK tour, supporting the infamous Alabama 3 at some of the UK's largest venues, gaining them many new fans as they further enhanced their reputation as the north-east’s buzz band. 2012 saw the band open up for Ocean Colour Scene’s Steve Craddock, followed by a run of tour dates and festival appearances across the UK, including slots with the likes of The Charlatans, Babyshambles, King Charles, Josh Kumra, Ren Harvieu, The Sunshine Underground, Jake Bugg and The Milk aswell as a 2nd short tour with Alabama 3. 3rd single 'Broken Minded was released shortly after. 2012 'Broken Minded' received extensive airplay on numerous regional and national UK radio stations including live sessions on BBC Radio Wales, BBC Radio York, BBC Radio Leeds and BBC Radio London whilst also being chosen by BBC 6Music's Tom Robinson for his Fresh On The Net playlist. The song also received airplay from numerous Premier League Football Clubs before games aswell as being featured on UK Sunday morning TV show, Sunday Brunch. The band toured extensively throughout 2012, doing no less than 80 live gigs around the UK including sell outs at Barfly in Camden, Water Rats London, The Garage in Islington, The Georgian Theatre in Stockton-on-Tees and The Bedford in Balham whilst also completing 12 gigs for Oxjam Festival in October. The 8 Piece, which also includes Keith Wilkinson (formerly of Squeeze & The Jools Holland Big Band) on bass and Kez Edwards/Todd Speakman on Percussion/Cajon - are due to release 2nd album 'Jarmalade' in June 2013 aswell as a double A side single release 'Machine' and 'Footsteps' scheduled for release in April 2013.
